The "Hankster" Needs You
Hank had a rough go of it in a pasture over a summer. After a very tough winter it turned out that the pastures were too dry and there wasn’t enough to eat. Hank was a 28 year old Quarter horse at the time (now 30)!
Seeing his need we bought him for $1. Hank was once an illustrious competition cutting horse. He worked hard for twenty three years – and he deserves a better retirement plan. He has put on lots of weight since his arrival, and has perked up considerably.
Hank also has a surrogate “Mom”, volunteer Irene Schenk, who visits him nearly every day, takes him for walks, brushes him, does belly lifts, cleans his eyes, makes sure he gets a nice roll, works in his paddock….and simply loves him.
Therapist Marilyn Tait has done some massage work for Hank as he is a little stiff in the hind end, and he is loosening up quite nicely. Hank now has a decided spring in his step, a twinkle in his eye (the other day he bucked when he was being led around the arena) and his proud carriage and “joie de vivre” has returned.
Hank is a very special fellow, he’s loving and kind and gentle. We would like to keep Hank but it is not the mandate of HPS to support horses indefinitely. Keeping that in mind we are currently looking for sponsors to help with his upkeep. Hanks “family” will look after him but his expenses amount to approximately $125 per month over and above.
An annual donation, or a monthly commitment will be greatly appreciated by Hank and his “posse”, and also can be donated through HPS for a tax receipt (amounts over $20).
*The more donations we receive for Hank the more money is freed up to help other horses!
