Rescue Me
I was rescued on a hot dry summer’s day, not much to eat as far as hay.
Sharing a field with many others in the same conditions, but they seemed ok.
I was standing there not sure what might happen to me, tired and old.
Then across the field came an angel and took me in out of sun, I was sold!
The winter was hard on me that year with full body shivers and the cold,
But I am an American Quarter Horse strong and bold!
I soon realized that the angels that were sent had sustenance and love.
These angel like creatures were sent from God like wings of a dove.
I was once a powerful competitive cutting horse with my head held high.
Now an old cowboy horse I knew then, as I know now, I can still reach for the sky.
Now I have a family of angels that love me so, I have people who care for me in the rain and snow.
You see it doesn’t matter to them they love me in spite of my old age, they can see my inner glow.
My old creaking body often is slow; it takes me awhile sometimes you know.
With a gentle rub down and some encouraging words I’m on my way with a happy glow.
It has been a year of change for me; I relax in my paddock and run free at night.
I exercise those old legs of mine with shear delight.
There is always hope, love and angels who will see it through
And the brightest of light fresh and new.
