Press releases that we have sent out to share pertinent news with the public:
The following press realease was sent out after the cruel theft of three tails at the Horse Protection Society facility in Langley. Above you can see one of the tails before and after....this horse's owners are devastated. This practice is becoming more and more common and the public must be made aware of the terrible cruelty it represents.
STEALING HORSE TAILS IS CONSIDERED ANIMAL ABUSE
Recent thefts of horse tails in the Lower Mainland are leaving horses with no protection from flies this summer. It takes a horse years to re-grow a tail! In the meantime, heartbroken owners are faced with the task of trying to provide some protection from bugs for their equine friends.
Not only are the craft and brush industries using horse hair, but the market for specialty extensions for show manes and tails is on the rise as well. The Horse Protection Society of BC currently sponsors an elderly horse whose tail was stolen. We will be braiding twine into his tail for the summer months.
The Society believes it’s time the public was made aware of this terrible crime. It may be time to boycott products made from horse hair. We would also like to see anyone caught stealing tails charged with animal cruelty.
HPS is a registered non-profit society whose mandate is to:
1. Prevent cruelty to horses, whether deliberate or due to ignorance.
2. Educate the public about equine needs.
3. Provide information and guidance with regards to horse care.
4. Stop the inhumane slaughter of horses.
