Personal instruction – horsemanship – approximately 1 hour
Riding lesson – approximately 45 min – 1 hour

Option 2: $300
Includes (weekly):
Option 1 program
1 extra day per week to practice on your own
- Lectures/clinics available in addition to the program day, cost is extra
- Equine First Aid
- Safe Trailering
- Farrier Demonstration
- Nutrition and barn management
- Fees to be paid monthly, due on the first of the month unless by special arrangement.
- There will be no refund for cancellations. We will reschedule riding lessons with 24 hours previous notice.
- Participants must carry Horse Council Insurance ($55.44 per year, adult)
- Participants will be expected to clean stalls and paddocks, maintain tack, and help out on the farm with each visit.
The Horsemanship Program will include:
- Level One – focus on the basics:
- Safety
- Grooming & grooming tools
- Tack
- Parts of the horse
- Leading, haltering, handling, tacking up
- Stall, paddock and tack cleaning
- Level Two – focus on feet and problems associated with rainy areas:
- Basic hoof care
- Lunging a horse
- Arena etiquette
- Rain scald
- Mud Fever
- Level Three – focus on digestion and feeding:
- Digestive system
- Worming
- Colic
- Feeding
- Road safety
- Level four – focus on barn management:
- Cleanliness
- Water management
- Storage, footing, space requirements
- Emergency systems and supplies
* All participants must wear suitable boots and riding helmets. (Greenhawk has an excellent starter kit for a very reasonable price).
* Parents of children participating in the program are encouraged to purchase the adult written material for the program so that they can stay informed and be supportive of the children’s progress and learning.
